Points I wish I'd made . . .

Allan Ulrich writes about the West Wave Dance Festival’s second program in more depth than I’ve offered here.

One statement that rings true as gospel for me: “What was notably encouraging throughout the sold-out program was a return to movement solutions, rather than a reliance on the props or the talking bodies of a few years ago.”

When I first came to the Bay Area five years ago, Summerfest/dance (the festival had not yet been re-christened West Wave) was full of Joe Goode imitators who shared his penchant for talking while standing on his head, but not his writing talent. There’s a place in my heart for good talking dance—but it’s nice to see the San Francisco scene has pulled out of a rut.
